Vice President of DEWA Abdul Syed Abdul Hameed talked about innovative power projects and called on Russian companies to cooperate

On September 29, on the eve of the Business mission of Business Russia to the 23rd International Exhibition on Water Management and Treatment, Energy Production and Environmental Protection WETEX-2021, an online session was held where the innovative power projects of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) were presented. Vice President of DEWA Abdul Syed Abdul Hameed made a review report. Russian companies — participants of the business mission — also presented their projects. The special guest of the event was The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates to the Russian Federation H.E. Mohammed Ahmed Al Jaber.
As Nonna Kagramanyan, Vice President of Business Russia, noted in her welcoming speech to the participants of the meeting, the interaction between Russia and the United Arab Emirates now is intensive. «This is proved by the growth of trade turnover between our countries, which in 2020 grew by 78% and reached a record level of $3.26 billion. A big role in the process of building an inter-country dialogue today is played by Business Russia,» said Nonna Kagramanyan.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the UAE to the Russian Federation H.E. Mohammed Ahmed Al Jaber underlined the activity of Business Russia and the organization's Business Ambassador to the UAE Maksim Zagornov in international projects. The diplomat expressed hope that the upcoming global exhibitions — EXPO-2020 and WETEX-2021 — will serve as an additional impact to intensify relations between the countries. «We have all opportunities for cooperation. I am confident that by acting together and in a coordinated manner, we can achieve significant success and bring our relations to a new level,» said Mr. Ambassador.
Business Ambassador of Business Russia to the UAE Maksim Zagornov told about current projects, as well as about the preparation of the business mission. The expert noted the great interest of the Russian business community in the International exhibition WETEX and emphasized that this year the delegation has almost doubled in size. «What are we expecting from WETEX? New business contacts, new ideas and new incentives for business development. In addition, strengthening relations with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, one of the most effective platforms for launching joint innovative projects,» said Maksim Zagornov.
Vice President of DEWA Abdul Syed Abdul Hameed welcomed Russian participants to WETEX and spoke about the key successes of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority. Today, DEWA is considered the world's leading innovative corporation in the field of sustainable development. With the direct assistance of DEWA the Energy Strategy is being realized in the UAE, according to which by 2050 clean energy production will amount to 75% of the total energy balance of the country and will turn Dubai into a global center of a green economy. DEWA's motto is «for future generations».
To achieve the goals, DEWA is implementing several innovative projects and programs. In particular, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in the UAE, the largest solar park in the world, with a design capacity of 5,000 MW in 2030 is under construction. Already, DEWA has achieved a world record, obtaining the lowest rate of 1.6953 U.S. cents per kilowatt hour using IPP model photovoltaic panels.
DEWA controls implementation of an ambitious building modernization program to conserve and monitor energy consumption and install clean and renewable energy technologies. The program includes the modernization of more than 30,000 buildings in Dubai by 2030 to improve the energy efficiency of urban buildings. One of the most striking «green building» projects in the UAE is the building of the new DEWA headquarters — Al Sheraa, which will be the largest government building with zero consumption.
One of DEWA's most important initiatives is the Smart Dubai initiative, in the frame of which DEWA encourages residents to install photovoltaic panels on their homes to generate kilowatts from solar energy and export the excess to the grid. Currently, solar power generation in Dubai by private households has reached 171.7 MW, one of the highest rates in the world.
Mr. Abdul Syed Abdul Hameed also talked about the history of WETEX which DEWA has been organizing for 23 years. The Vice President stressed that today WETEX is one of the most effective platforms for presenting one's brand and establishing contacts with local companies. «Let's cooperate and work together for a better future,» Mr. Hameed urged Russian entrepreneurs. He expressed the hope that in 2022 there will be even more WETEX participants from Russia.
In the final part of the meeting participants of the Business Russia business mission presented their projects. Unique developments, technologies and products were presented by Yuri Vasilyev, executive director of Institute of Arctic Technologies of MIPT, Dmitry Likhachev, chief engineer of FIC Cosmos-Neft-Gas LLC, Sergey Nikolaev, general director of Cyberphysics LLC, Alexander Iliintsev, general director of Russian Electrotechnical Company Limited, Vladimir Gonchar, director of ICETECH, Alexey Polyakov, international business development manager of M-Cycle Industries Inc, Dmitry Potapov, director of Industrial Energy Service Technologies LLC, Igor Alexandrov, director of Alprom LLC.
